Home care Services –Home Care attendant

Coup de Balai is a social economy enterprise accredited by the Quebec government in 1999. This non-profit organization provides domestic aid services for people aged of 18 and over and works closely with the Centre for Health and Social Services on its territory. In September 2016, we will start a new home care service.

The home care assistant sees to the personal hygiene, comfort, safety and the well-being of a client in his living environment. He helps the client to in performing daily activities. He may perform specific tasks after having had the appropriate training. The home care worker may be required to perform some domestic duties and may on occasion accompany the client to medical appointments or other activities outside of his living environment.  

He informs the coordinator of personal assistance services of his observations of the needs of the client and family. He may participate in the identification of client needs and the development of the service plan and its realization.

Job Description

• Offer personal care services to each client according to the service plan
• Participate actively in the creation of a warm, stimulating, active and secure living environment.
• Encourage the client to adopt healthy living habits
• Encourage active participation and autonomy in order to prevent loss of capacity.
• Create bonds of trust based on respect and dignity with clients and their families
• Execute certain domestic tasks (preparation of meals and light housecleaning)
• Escort the client to his medical appointment or other activities outside the home.
• Carry out all related tasks as requested by your immediate superior

Required competencies

• Possess a DEP in Home Care Services
• Valid PDSB and CPR diplomas
• Verbally bilingual
• Empathy for clients and specifically a senior population
• Have initiative and a capacity for decision-making
• Attention to quality
• Adaptable to change
• Ability to work under stress
• Good team player
• Preferably have a car for night shifts
